Former Research Horses Available for Adoption

Former research horses are searching for new homes after contributing years in service toward progress in equine medicine. The 13 horses were part of a research group at Virginia Tech's MARE Center in Middleburg, Va. They were used for studies on nutrition and growth, as well as exercise physiology.

MARE Center manager Tim Parmley contacted Diana Baker, a longtime volunteer in Thoroughbred retirement and rescue, for assistance in placing the 13 horses in good homes.

The group of 13 horses originally included one Thoroughbred stallion, 11 Thoroughbred mares, and an Arabian gelding. While some have been placed, nine are still looking for homes.

The horses range in age from 6 to 22 years old. According to Baker, they are in great shape.

For more information on the available horses e-mail Baker at 13thoroughbreds@gmail.com.
